WHat to wear General
Wear clothes that you will feel comfortable in.
Be sure that your clothes fit well. Avoid items that are too tight or too big.
Avoid: turtlenecks, busy patterns, large lines/stripes.
Clothes should be pressed and look like new.
Don't worry about your shoes, unless you need a full body portrait. Go for comfort!
Wardrobe choices should reflect your industry, for example a corporate headshot will require different clothing than the owner of a salon. Your wardrobe should be a reflection of your profession.
What to wear women
Different necklines will change the apparent shape of your face. Try or bring with you a variety different shirts/blouses to see what works best.
Avoid black tops, a black jacket will work, but you want to have color underneath to soften the look.
It's okay to be fashionable, but don't over do it. You want to these portraits to draw attention to your face and eyes.
Keep your jewelry simple.
Avoid sleeveless tops.
what to wear men
The standard business look is a suit jacket, dress shirt and tie.
A casual business look is often a jacket and open dress shirt, shirt and tie (no jacket), or dress shirt on it's own.
For a no-jacket casual look, bring colored shirts - ideally darker than your skin tone.
A white dress shirt by itself is a bad idea - unless you plan to wear it underneath something (jacket or sweater).
Bring a few different jackets, shirt colors and ties so we have choices for the photo.
